Art / History
Originally, this breed was called 'The Olde English Bulldogge'. We utilized the Victorian-Era spelling to differentiate our dogs from the A.K.C. Bulldog. Other alternative bulldog breeders who breed to different standards, would start to use our name to describe their dogs. This has led to a lot of controversy as to what an 'Olde Bulldogge' actually is! Once again we needed to differentiate our dogs not only from A.K.C. bulldogs, but also from alternative bred Bulldogges.
Our breed club is now called the Leavitt Bulldog Association (L.B.A.). Named after Breed founder David Leavitt. I like to cut the confusion entirely and refer to them as exactly what they are, Regency-Era Bull Dogs.
This bloodline is a recreation of an extinct breed. To develop this bloodline, Mr. Leavitt used era correct bulldog art as a guideline. These are not overly exaggerated A.K.C. Bulldogs or downsized American Bulldogs. These dogs represent the original sporting bulldogs that sired all bull breeds.
